But, you can watch a new kind of history in the making as you watch one of the many firework shows in the various cities and townships of the state. Massachusetts Fireworks are shot off in celebration for all types of holidays as well as for sporting events and community festivals.

Perhaps the biggest Massachusetts fireworks event in the state, even the country, is Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular. This premier event delights hundreds of thousands of people who visit from all over the country to sit on the banks of the Charles River and enjoy the festivities – another 7 million tune in to national television coverage thanks to a CBS primetime special. In addition to the expected rendition of Tchaikovsky’s "1812 Overture," the Boston Pops throws in a few added extras such as howitzer cannons, fireworks and church bells for maximum impact. The inspirational musical score is perfectly choreographed to thousands of artillery shells which burst open beautifully into the night sky. In Springfield, residents and visitors celebrate with another great Boston firework show at the Star Spangled Springfield 4th of July Celebration. The event happens around the Fourth of July in Riverfront Park where Fireworks by Grucci sets off a truly spectacular display from Memorial Bridge – a musical simulcast can be found on local radio.

For New Year’s Eve, Boston hosts a ‘First Night’ celebration which annually showcases the work of 1,000 artists in 200 performances and exhibits at 35 indoor and outdoor venues located throughout the downtown area on New Year’s Eve. This premiere Boston event is the oldest and largest of its kind in the United States drawing in about one million people from the surrounding areas over the one-day long festival. At First Night Boston expect lively music, dance, theater, visual art, and film as well as family friendly activities and a spectacular fireworks display at midnight.
