Fireworks in St Louis
When you think of St. Louis, Missouri, you might think of the iconic stainless steel arch that overlooks the Gateway City. Or, you might imagine riding a great steam boat down the mighty Mississippi River, or, you might even start working up a thirst over the many breweries that call this Midwest city home. However, St. Louis is also a great place to enjoy fireworks; there are a number of displays set off throughout the year that are worth catching, for visitors and residents alike.
Sporting venues are typically a prime source of pyrotechnic entertainment and thankfully St. Louis has a number of big-name teams to brag about. During the spring and summer, fans can cheer on the 10-time world champion baseball team, the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium. In the fall and winter months, the St. Louis Rams charge onto the gridiron and Edward Jones Dome. Both teams like to celebrate post game with firework shows for the fans, it’s a great way to pump up the team spirit win or lose.
Amusement parks are another great place to take in firework shows. Visitors to Six Flags St. Louis will not only enjoy the thrill of roller coasters, the entertainment of live performances and meeting their favorite cartoon characters, they can also see great firework shows. Firework shows are planned throughout the year and are typically choreographed and designed to complement the current season from Independence to Halloween to the holidays and New Year’s Eve.
Summer visitors can get patriotic at Fair St. Louis, which features fireworks, air shows and free live concerts. The Gateway arch and Mississippi river are lit up for three consecutive nights around the 4th of July following a concert headliner – not to be missed. While Fair St. Louis has one of the most well known firework shows in St. Louis that honors Independence Day, there are many others in the surrounding area as well. For example, the St. Charles Riverfest is an exciting 4th of July celebration held each year on the banks of the Missouri River. The festival includes four days of carnival rides, games, parades and plenty of fireworks. Webster Groves has another nearby ‘fireworks spectacular’ that is held in conjunction with their annual Community Days event in honor of the 4th of July. These are just a few other firework show options, there are many more!
Haul out the holly and deck the halls, but don’t forget to check out the fireworks at the Macy’s Holiday Festival of Lights. This downtown event is free to the public and includes a Christmas tree lighting ceremony at Kiener Plaza followed by festive seasonal music and special guests (ho, ho, ho!) and, at the end, a stunning firework show.
Ring in New Year’s Eve with the whole family at First Night in Grand Center. This family-friendly, alcohol free event draws nearly 15,000 people who enjoy an evening of singing, dancing and art. The memorable evening ends with fireworks at midnight, if the kids can stay up that long! A great fireworks display can also be found at Westport Plaza, enjoy a carriage ride through the entertainment district and enjoy the beautiful fireworks on the go!
As with most big cities in the country, the local visitor’s center acts as a liaison to keep tourists (and even residents) informed of goings-on in the general vicinity. In St. Louis, contact the St. Louis Convention and Visitor’s Commission to get up-to-date information on arts and culture, sporting events, entertainment and any firework shows that might be happening around the area at any time of the year.
