Fireworks in Indianapolis

Known as the ‘Crossroads of America,’ Indianapolis is the 12th largest city in the US and the 2nd in the Midwest region, only behind Chicago. Fireworks have long been a tradition in the area and there are many great venues in the area to take in firework shows during nearly every holiday and season of the year. The city loves sporting and visiting a college, minor-league or professional team could always end with a perk – a post game fireworks show. Young and old alike enjoy coming together as a community and celebrating this great town with many memorable pyrotechnic extravaganzas.

For the 4th of July, there are quite a few firework shows to see, but a couple not to be missed are the Regions Bank Freedom Blast and the fireworks shot off at the Indianapolis Indians game. In fact, if you are in attendance at the baseball game at Victory Field, all you need to is stay in your seat after the approximate 20 minute post-game firework show to have an optimal view of the fireworks being shot off from the top of Regions Bank. Regions Bank is 36 stories high, the third tallest in the city, making it a prime launching site for all sorts of magnificent fireworks that can be seen for miles away.

Another good Independence Day firework show happens at White River State Park near downtown Indianapolis where hundreds of beautiful bursts will decorate the sky and illuminate the Canal Walk. If you wish to enjoy some green space while you watch the fireworks, set out a blanket at lay back on The Lawn, one of the countries top outdoor venues.

Sporting venues offer plenty of chance to take in firework shows; the Indianapolis Indians were already mentioned to have post-game firework festivities. Even the Indianapolis Colts professional football team which plays indoors at Lucas Oil Stadium sometimes feature fireworks after an exciting touchdown. As home to the NFL’s Super Bowl in 2012, it’s a pretty safe bet to assume there will be some great fireworks around Lucas Oil Stadium. At the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, home to the famed Indy 500, there are quite a few opportunities to take in dazzling displays long after the last car has made its final lap. For example, “IMS After Dark” is held in conjunction with a motorcycle race on the track that includes a party after the sun goes down along with other fan attractions such as fireworks.

Just an hour outside of Indianapolis, in Brazil, Indiana, there is a Christmas celebration called ‘Christmas in the Park’ that features all the good old-fashioned entertainment of the season such as visits from Santa, tree decorating, crafts, food and more. One highlight of the event is the ‘Gift of Christmas Firework Show’ that is preceded by a lighted Christmas parade

For New Year’s Eve, several locations will hold parties with fireworks as the grand finale. Usually visitors and residents can catch some dazzlers shot off near the Monument Circle downtown. Or, button up your parka and sit atop a roof top or parking garage to catch any impromptu fireworks being launched into the sky as midnight approaches.
