Fireworks in Denver

When folks think of Denver, Colorado, they might imagine the natural beauty of the great outdoor mountain landscape, the colorful history of this past mining town, or the great sports in town including football’s Denver Broncos. Residents and visitors can also add ‘fireworks’ to the list because there are many choice opportunities to watch firework displays in this aptly named ‘Mile High City.’ The artistry of pyrotechnics is incorporated into many of the town’s festivals, holidays, sporting matches and other special events, catch one or catch all, you sure to have a blast with the fireworks in Denver, Colorado.

Independence Day brings many options for fireworks in Denver, so grab the lawn chairs, mini-flags to wave and start humming ‘God Bless America.’ The Denver Symphony Orchestra offers a musical firework extravaganza at Civic Park Center where spectators cal listen to all-American favorites followed by an awesome firework and laser show. This great event is viewable from many parts of the city and is a great way to follow up your neighborhood parade. The Cherry Creek Arts Festival is a three-day arts festival that usually takes place on or around the 4th of July that brings in visual artists from around the country to showcase their masterpieces, check out the art and then stay into the night to watch one of the firework displays. There are usually a few sporting events going on July 4th, so check out the Colorado Rockies baseball and Colorado Rapids for fireworks that will ignite after the games. In addition to many of the smaller community firework shows, the nearby ski resorts including Vail, Steamboat Springs and Beaver Creek all host firework displays at mountain base near their respective resorts.

On New Year’s Eve, the sky will sparkle with pyrotechnic pizzazz thanks to New Year’s Eve Fireworks Downtown, presented by the Downtown Denver Partnership.  A popular event in the ‘Winter in the City’ program, there are two spectacular fireworks shows, one at 9 p.m. geared towards the younger crowd and a midnight firework display taking place simultaneously at two undisclosed sites along the 16th Street Mall. It is recommended that viewers stand along the 16th Street Mall for optimal viewing. Also included in the festivities are music, dancing, performance art and other year-end fun. Also for December 31st, the Colorado Symphony hosts a musical event that keeps New Year’s classy by entertaining with beloved waltzes, polkas and other classics and ends in time to see the early downtown firework display. If you’ve never seen fireworks shoot off over the snow with the mountain peaks in view, you have to head over to one of the nearby ski resorts such as Breckenridge or Winter Park to take in their holiday events which always include some sort of fabulous firework show.

Grab your lederhosen and lawn chairs, because many of the fun beer-loving festivals include fireworks as part of the entertainment. Oktoberfest in Denver is a fun way to party down German style and add a little polka to your pyrotechnics. Also, The Great American Beer Festival is also a great option for sampling a variety of brews and anticipating fireworks. Over Labor Day, some locations in the greater Denver area also shoot of fireworks including amusement park Elitch Gardens. 

The town’s NFL team, the Denver Broncos, consistently draw crowds of 70,000 plus to watch their gridiron action at Mile High Stadium. In honor of special wins, championships and just because, sometimes there are spectacular fireworks on display.

The Colorado Rockies play Major League Baseball over at Coors Field and treat guests at the game (and onlookers from far away) to post-game fireworks during many home games in the summer and also at a big July 4th blow out. The Denver Nuggets basketball team, the Colorado Avalanche hockey team and the Colorado Rapids soccer team may possibly offer firework promotions, check the team schedule for each before heading out.
